DISTANT SHADOWS
In the evening of my life, What are these distant shadows? They darken my lonely path, Which, endlessly, deeper goes. As I trudge along my way, Thoughts of olden days gone by, Sometimes offer me solace, And sometimes they bring a sigh. ‘What I did? What did I not Do that I ought to have done? What can others garner from This my chequered life, lesson?’ ‘To what temptations I fell? What all sins I committed? What injustice did I face? Which one I perpetrated?’ Such thoughts torment me and cast In my mind, many shadows. They darken as I walk through These lonely woods and meadows. * Written in abcb 7-7-7-7 format M C Gupta Created: 11 July, 2003
