YOU AND I

Let us go then, you and I,
Along our different ways;
Let us forget, you and I,
Those weary troublesome days.

True it is that you loved me
And that I did love you, too;
We are too independent,
This, also, is but so true.

Though we certainly did try
To strengthen the bonds of love;
Maybe it was not ordained
To be so by God above.

Why should we blame each- other?
Why live superficial life?
Why suppress reality?
Why live as husband and wife?

Let us part in calm and peace,
With no tear in the eye;
So that if we meet again,
We meet as friends, you and I.
