YOU AND I
Let us go then, you and I, Along our different ways; Let us forget, you and I, Those weary troublesome days. True it is that you loved me And that I did love you, too; We are too independent, This, also, is but so true. Though we certainly did try To strengthen the bonds of love; Maybe it was not ordained To be so by God above. Why should we blame each- other? Why live superficial life? Why suppress reality? Why live as husband and wife? Let us part in calm and peace, With no tear in the eye; So that if we meet again, We meet as friends, you and I.
