How do you ignite your burning desire to write? Do you scan your environment, hoping for input? Perhaps you read for inspiration, borrow another writer’s style, or expand on someone’s theme while maintaining a respectable distance from plagiarism. Or maybe you create stories, prose or poems that draw from life’s angst, love and comedic mishaps. Writer’s block is presumably a highly-contagious affliction many feel compelled to describe in minute detail. Some writer’s believe verbalizing the symptoms is a type of therapy, much like an alcoholic would join AA to control that affliction. Don't breathe life into it or empower its imaginary grip on your creativity. Instead, consider another option I call Trance writing. Trance writing is a ritual of the soul. Some consider it an unknown place because they can't quite put a finger on the source. It's a process that dismisses logical thought and displaces inherent emotion, allowing the spirit to reign supreme, while tapping into an infinite thought reservoir. So next time you feel the urge to lament about non-existent writer’s block, don’t go there. Instead, quiet your mind and open your heart; drift to the frequency that is tuned into your soul. It has so much to say that is waiting to be deciphered as only you can.
