Dragon Dreams
By
La Belle Rouge

There’s a story often told
at crimson setting of day’s sun
as round the fire men gather
when the work of day be done
A tale of love and passion
of lust, betrayal and death
A search for misplaced treasure
and the loss of untold wealth

So settle down in comfort
as before the fire we dream
and I’ll tell to you the whole saga
of Lady fair and time so mean
Now to start my riveting tale
You must know the Lady’s name
Cameo of Twilight Wood
is one and the very same

Fair of face and form
with hair of spun burgundy silk
skin so smooth and pale
like the finest creamy goat’s milk
Eyes of verdant jewels like emeralds
neath lashes dark and long
A voice dulcet, soft and melodic
like unto a nightingale’s song

Twas a time of brutal battle
of love lost before it be gained
And she a prize sought by many who
glimpsed fair face and knew her name
A nobleman of cruel ill repute
fierce of countenance, harsh of soul
held her prisoner in his palace
for ransom more than king’s gold

She chaffed so hard at the bars
and would have run far away
A guard stood at her chamber door
to make certain she did stay
Each day she wept, refused to eat
Until she was forced to dine
on sumptuous fare he offered her
as she sobbed and bided her time

Feeling only hopelessness
as each new day did dawn
Praying her Noble Champion to come
before each day was gone
But none had the ransom in gold
that the cruel nobleman required
None could break bars and fight the guards
the evil prince had hired

One day as all hope disappeared
fell upon her ears the strangest sound
loud rustling of dragon wings
resounded in her cell all around
Then looking up she spied him
seated on the barred windowsill
The frightful dragon creature
his vast, scaled wings fluttering still

His eyes were like none she’d seen
bluer than the Aegean Sea
Countenance fearsome and wrinkled
like a cathedral gargoyle might be
And his voice…..ah his smooth voice
did soothe the turmoil in her brain
As he whispered, “Do not fear
for I’ve come your freedom to claim”

His unfurled wings did shimmer
with shades of violet and indigo
Who he was and where he came from
her inquisitive soul longed to know
She wondered at his dragoneon size
at reptilian scales and talons great
She questioned why he was there
and pondered her destined fate

“Fear not,” fierce creature repeated
with voice deep and smooth like a man
My name is Justin Jaimin, My Lady
and I have come to you with a plan
for My Lord, a King of Princes
has sent me here today
to tear apart your prison bars
and bear you safely away

Then with the blazing fire of his breath
he did melt each iron prison bar
and bade her climb upon his back
for their journey would be long and far
She feared to approach and touch him
heart beating wildly within her breast
Begging her to board his strong broad back
he gave her not a moment’s rest

So she climbed upon the windowsill
and then onto broad shoulders of indigo
He assured her there was nothing to fear
answers to all questions soon she’d know
Then rising up into the heavens
they flew and left behind at last
the stark prison of her heart
the dark dungeon of her past

And as the journey was long
ere to Mysterious Kingdom they came
She oft would pet the dragon
calling him Justin Jaimin, his odd name
“When we will finally arrive?” She asked
“And is your King as kind as you?”
Justin would assure her, he was indeed
with a heart that beat noble and true

As the days flowed into weeks
and as of yet no kingdom be found
she ordered Justin Jaimin to land
and set her feet firmly on the ground
And so the majestic dragon
did swiftly as he was told
and ended his flight on an island
mid the mists of dampness and cold

“And where is your King?” She demanded
“For the journey is much too far
and I grow tired of the flight in hot sun
and sleeping beneath the bright stars”
Was then she told him to leave her
be away and never return
She was weary with his deception
and wanted the truth to learn

Twas then that without a word
she noticed upon his reptilian cheek
two huge teardrops had fallen
as he opened his mouth to speak
“Forgive me, Fairest Lady
for there is, alas, no King
hearing you weep each day behind iron bars
I decided your deliverance to bring

“If you can but find it in your heart
to forgive the folly of mine
I will build for you a kingdom
in only a matter of time”
Was then her soul was smitten
with tender love and gratitude
And throwing her arms around him'
she kissed his lips of indigo blue

There before her incredulous eyes
transformed by love sublime
the dragon Justin Jaimin changed form
becoming a kingly man in time
And on that secret, mist covered island
did build with his own hands
an eternal kingdom of love for two where
beyond the veil of time it still stands

The Moral,;
True Love (Justin Jaimin)
Does Not Always
Fit Our Expectations
But It Always Takes
A Shadow (Cameo)
Out of Prison And
Builds A Kingdom For Two
