GOODBYE, O MY DEAR HUSBAND
Goodbye, O my dear husband, I bid final goodbye; For a parting glimpse of you, I yearn as now I die. We had our darker moments And those that were pleasant But sadly the darker ones Were much too abundant. Goodbye, O my dear husband, I wish you adieu. When you come home this evening, I won’t be there for you. How I wish I could discuss, My fears and my worries. But you have no time for me, Your life always hurries. Goodbye, O my dear husband, You are so innocent. Life for you has only meant Research, teaching students. Science does not know feelings Since they are too sublime. Science, theories, formulae! All else a waste of time! Goodbye, O my dear husband, I know your heart is pure. It’s my fault that loneliness I just could not endure. I do not put blame on you, I wish you were able To make a feminine heart A bit comfortable. Goodbye, O my dear husband, Sorry, I made this mess; But it is for the last time That I cause you distress. Excuse me, my dear husband, For causing you dismay. I pray to God for your peace, As I go far away. * Written in abcb, 7-6-7-6 format. * A sister poem on this theme is "GOODBYE" M C Gupta 5 August 2003
