you kiss her.
softly on the lips.
and place your hand in hers.
i bet you count the stars
as you trade tomorrow's wishes.
and wonder where you will be
then.
and when.

you call her.
an innocent ring.
and it's all begun.
as words are whispered
into midnights air.
i bet you trade stories and count off jokes
as you softly laugh in her ear.
and talk about being together.
what you'll do.
and when.

you took her heart.
she gave it willingly.
from that sleeve where
it was loosely hung.
and a love is given.
whether the mind says go or stay.
and you promise to never break it.
no matter what comes.
and when.

you meant it.
at least she felt
like you did.
the kisses and skin grazes.
whispered promises.
the heart you stole.
she told herself.
you meant it.
you meant it.
no matter what will come.
and when.

i thought you meant it too.
