Flair For Writing Issue Ten September Issue

Assistant Editor: Angel Angel

Hi Everyone! Welcome to another newsletter. I'm getting ready to go to the Blueberry Festival which is a big deal in my town. They have carnival rides, games, contests, blueberry food of all kinds and the best part of all, Flea Markets! Guess where I will be?! You guessed it! Shopping at the Flea Markets. Angel has been making sigs and writing stories. If you get a chance, check out her art work and creative writing items.

This month were going to talk about writing novels. I have written one but I haven't got it published. I'm trying. Mary has published a novel Exposed Secrets. It's very good and so true to life. She covers a lot of issues. If you would like to read it, E-mail Mary and she will send you a copy. I have read it and you will enjoy it. She's very talented author and a friend.

I got my info from THE MARSHALL PLAN FOR NOVEL WRITING Written By: Evan Marshall. Let's go. I hope you enjoy this issue.

Life has a habit of intruding on our creative endeavors. A novelist must set goals that are attainable within the limits of her or her lifestyle. This means if you have children and a husband, you need to write around them. Make time for your family and hold up your responsiblities. If you work a job, you have to go to work. Writing a novel you do in your spare time. Like when the husband works, the children are in school or you have the day off. It's never easy to find the time you want and need to write. You put writing on a schedule. Take out two or three hours a day to write or more. Each person has to decide what works for them when writing a novel.

What are your personal goals? Want to be famous? Make a lot of money? Need the ego gratification of seeing your work in print? Have a desire to entertain or move with people? Crave the creative fulfilment of writing whether you get published or not? Take time to search deep down inside the reasons you want to write. Personally, I would like to be able to quit my Nursing job and be a full time writer. Angel loves to write, paint and spend time with boyfriend Phillip and cats.

What to write about? That all depends on you. Do you like romance, crime, horror, true to life, non fiction or other? You decide the genre and go with it. You write as the thoughts come flowing to you. You can't write it over night. Some writers have worked on a novel for months and years.

Like short stories, you need a interesting, hold on to your seat opening, convincing characters, plot, drama, creative dialogue and a dynamite ending.

Here are 16 steps to writing a novel:

1. Finding the perfect novel for you.
2.Shaping the story idea
3. Creating your lead
4. Defining your other characters
5. Getting off to the right start
6. Interweaving story lines
7. Surprising the reader
8. Ending on all the right notes
9. Putting it all together
10, 11. Mastering the modes:Action, feelings,thoughts backgrounds
12. Completing a draft
13, 14 Be your own editor and apply the finishing touches
15, 16 Producing a knockout proposal, Approaching Editors and agents.

I will give you an example of the novel I wrote. I wrote a romance novel. My main character is Sheridan DeBoard. She lives in Seagull, Maine but works in Bangor, Maine 2003, the present. She's beautiful, blonde, 27, divorced from an attorney named Colten DeBoard. She is the Editor of PARADISE Magazine.Going home one night, the bridge is flooded that she takes home and the lighthouse is lit up and it hasn't been used for years. A pirate ship floats towards her and she boards it. She is kidnapped by the pirate captain and pirates and goes back to the past 1795, in London England. Captain Blackhawk leaves her at his brother's estate, Lord Jarred Winslow. Sheridan and Jarred fall in love but she wants to go back to the present but she doesn't want to leave Jarred. Jarred had a mistress, Lady Margaret Collins who hates Sheridan on sight. She gets into Jarred's bed and makes it look like Jarred cheated on her. Sheridan trusts Jarred and knows Margaret set Jarred up. One of the maids, Magda doesn't get along with Sheridan and tries to make Sheridan look bad. Another maid, Jessie makes friends with Sheridan. Sheridan helps Jarred with his ship building business. She and Jarred go to plays together in London. They have their favorite place by the pond where they share their first kiss. Coming home from a Ball one night, a severe thunderstorm happens and the carriage over turns and Sheridan is back in the present. She can't find Jarred. Her Assistant Editor calls and it's the next morning. It's like she never went back into the past. Did Sheridan dream of Jarred and the past? She goes back to work and thinks it's a dream even though it couldn't be. Sheridan sees Jarred two days later sitting by the lighthouse! He found her. He remembers that Sheridan told him about the lighthouse and he's now in the present. The ending is happy.

So, I hope this helps with any plans you have of writing a novel. As far as publishing, not yet. I try to cover all the steps. I may need to edit some more before that happens.

Next month, I would like to talk about Halloween for the newsletter. Any ideas about Halloween or this newsletter, please let me or Angel know. Novels are hard to wrote but anyone who can write more then one, I salute them.

UpDate: As of June 11, 2007 I have 2 published novels Passage To Romance as described above and Princes Of Scruples, a Medieval Novel with Publish America. Hopefully, I will write more and be published.
