SOMETIMES
Sometimes I feel I have done all That in my youth I had begun. I feel like resting contented For a task that’s sincerely done. But then I think I could have done Better with more of diligence; I could have achieved a bit more With more courage and confidence. Sometimes I think of the failures I often did experience; When life itself was a burden, And, mental frost, a consequence. But my duty only I did, Not doing which would be a sin; Unmindful of the uphill task, Undeterred if I lose or win. But then a thought dawns on me that In fact, I have done not a thing. I have been just an instrument. By myself, I could do nothing. My successes and my failures Are apparent, unimportant. They were His bidding and I was Simply his humble instrument. * Written in abcb, 8-8-8-8 format M C Gupta 3 September 2003
