Love
Jealousy, an emotion that rages, Destructive down through the ages; For it seeks to possess and enslave, Controling to make another behave. While love breaks open the chains, And instead of destroying sustains. Pride, an emotion that swells the ego, Seeking to be the star of the show; It tramples others under foot, To all who taste it’s bitter fruit. While love seeks to lifts another, Valuing more the sister and brother. Arrogance rises above its friends, From perceived heights it condescends; Rude by nature it cares not a whit, A misshapened ego and a misfit, While love makes no harsh demands, But reaches down with a strong hand. Lust, always seeks its own pleasure, Degrading life’s most precious treasure, For lust robs with sweet words of love, Cloaked in robes of a pure white dove. While true love from its heart gives, That in another it might live. So love is an emotion pure and true, Sought by many but attained by few, For the impostors would lead astray, Those who wish to travel love’s way. And about love I have no doubt, When it sees a need, it reaches out.
