Big Guys Do Cry

I went to a funeral home to view
A dear lady who had passed away
Standing by the side of her coffin
Her grandson was wiping tears away
And I thought, why, it's alright
For big guys to cry.

A high school student, on his way to school
Found his dog lying along side the road
Dead, it had been hit by a truck, passing through
The tears streamed down the young man's face
As he was grieving for his buddy
And I knew that sometimes
Big guys need to cry.

A sister got hurt, a bro left home
A family crisis brought them all low
And a young man grieves inside
While the odd tear rolls down his eye
And I knew sometimes
Big guys want to cry.

A man who just turned old enough to drink
Took his car out to the bar one night
Arrested for driving while drunk
When he awoke in jail and seen
What a disgrace he brought on himself
He cried bitterly and it was alright
For big guys do cry.

A man and woman so madly in love
Living together as husband and wife
A wee little baby born in their lives
When the woman decided she no longer
Wanted to be a mother nor a wife
And her mate cried openly for his
Child and himself
And I knew then
Big guys are not afraid to cry.

A change of career after many years
Was met with happiness and regrets
When presented a card with personal notes
it was worth more than he dared or hoped
Tears of happiness rolled from his eyes
And it was natural for
Big guys to cry.

A preacher knelt on his knees
He was praying fervently
For his parish and those in need
Listing, by names, the ones who were suffering
He placed his face on the ground and
Cried, pleading for the Lord to hear
As he wanted God to know
He was humble and sincere
So even when praying
Big guys do cry.

For those who think a man is a wimp
If they have tears in their eye or a trembling lip
I’ve got news to share with you
Only a mean - spirited man would NEVER cry
So come on guy's let your emotions flow
Don't be embarrassed to cry out loud
For if the truth be known
All big guys do cry.
