WALKING OUT

Travails of a wife, stuck up with a writer husband whose writing has got stuck
WALKING OUT

I have spent full five years with you,
But these have been truly like hell.
You do not know what I suffered,
Even, it is no use to tell.

Soon after my marriage I learnt
That I committed a mistake.
I wish I had known earlier,
A hundred bucks you cannot make.

I have to work day and night so
That I keep running home and hearth.
But, of lending a helping hand,
You have no desire in your heart.

I have been waiting all these years
To see you shine as a writer,
You say that once you are published,
Our life will be so much brighter.

I don’t mind working and earning
For this tiny home or hovel;
And to keep feeding you so long
As you do complete your novel.

But five long years of writing, and,
As yet, your hero is in school!
Like you, he will achieve nothing,
Like you, he will remain a fool.

I just cannot take any more,
I think I am done up with you;
Move out of home and get some work,
Or, one day, I walk out on you!
