EMPTINESS
How I felt when I lost my wife

EMPTINESS

Empty world, empty town,
Empty streets, empty house,
Empty lawn, empty rooms,
Empty bed, all arouse

In my mind that is empty,
Sensation that I’m alone;
In my heart that is empty,
Feeling that my all is gone.

After losing the one who
Was the partner of my life,
Who stood me through thick and thin,
Through moments of peace and strife;

Who gave me simple love pure,
Who gave me care and comfort,
Who, to give me happiness,
Did not spare any effort;

Who only asked me, in turn,
That I should always love her;
Who expected nothing but
That, for ever, I trust her,

Now that everything is lost,
My love, my hope, my solace,
What is left in world for me?
Nothing but this truth to face:

That my breath is empty and
Beat of heart is empty, too.
Bundle of emptiness, I
Have to, emptiness, live through.

* Written in abcb 7-7-7-7 format. The first stanza is 6-6-6-6.
