METAMORPHOSIS

I gazed at my reflection in the mirror;
A touch of lipstick was applied,
A tendril of brown hair evaded
And hung loosely, alone, without pride.

I felt a shiver through my body,
Perhaps I had drank too much wine;
The dress that I wore was red satin,
I thought that I looked really fine.

I grasped the cold steel of the pistol,
The room was so silent, so still;
I had seen my true love with another
And he will pay, yes, he will!

On the cobblestone street outside
Thoughts in my head started to spin;
A metamorphosis was happening,
I was losing control once again.

A wisp of smoke as the gun went off,
I had realized that I would never win;
To kill the man that I loved deeply
Was a task that I couldn't begin.

The sweet scent of iris around me,
The evergreen trees far above,
A lighthouse flashing its warning;
And I wept for the loss of my love.

Sirens wailed in the night without pity,
As the blood stained the ground where I lay;
Yet I stood and looked down at my body
And then - I just turned away.
