Writing Prompt Words: Black Cat, Gypsy, Ocean, Violin
England, 1879 Eight year-old Sabrina had had enough of the orphanage. She had been planning to leave for weeks. She hurried down to the basement. It was never locked. She gently opened the window and was able to fit through. Perfect. She crawled out the window then got to her feet and ran like the wind. Sabrina knew noone would miss her until bed check. She couldn't endure any more beatings. Sabrina ran until she came to the woods. She had never been this far. It was so dark but she had to go forward. No way was she going back to the Orphanage. She entered the woods. She heard a hoot owl. She heard other sounds but she walked then ran. Just then she heard a meow. Sabrina hesitated. Okay. This was a cat. She kept going. Meow. She heard it again. Just then a black cat appeared. At least there was a moon and she could see the cat in the moon's light. Sabrina bendt down and hugged the cat as it purred. The cat felt so soft and furry. ""I'll call you Spook. You're my only friend, Spook. Let's keep going." Meow, answered Spook. Sabrina hung on to Spook and kept walking until a glow of a fire appeared and she heard the ocean waves. She heard there was an ocean near by but she had never been there. The Orphanage kept her locked up 24-7. The sound of music was heard and laughter. Spook jumped down out of her arms and ran toward the noise. "Spook! Come back here!" "Who's there?" said a man's voice. "I'm Sabrina. I have no where to go. Please don't hurt me." Alasha, a female gypsy, clad in bright colored skirts, a bright blue peasant blouse and wearing jewelery of all kinds said "Father, she's just a little girl. She won't harm us." She picked up the black cat and Spook purred. Sabrina thought Alasha was so beautiful. She had dark black hair and purple eyes. Sabrina walked toward Alasha as Alasha took a hold of Sabrina's hand. "Who are you little one and why are you here?" "I'm an orphan. My parents were killed by Highway men. I live at the Orphanage but I left. They beat me and they don't care. I want a family. I found this black cat and we were in the woods and I saw your fire. I heard the ocean waves and Spook got away from me. I'm sorry we bothered you. I heard some beautiful music. Please don't send me back to that awful Orphanage." Alasha hugged Sabrina as she started to cry. Alasha her self had been abandoned as a child and Sandor and Eureaka had took her in and gave her a life. Alasha loved being a gypsy. Sandor patted the little girl's arm as Ereaka stroked Sabrina's hair. Sandor and Eureaka had no children except Alasha when her parents had died in a horse and carriage accident. Eureaka wanted Sabrina. The violin had sent Sabrina to them. "Here. Here. It's okay. We won't hurt you. Were leaving tomorrow. Would you and your kitty like to travel with us?" Sabrina smiled. "Yes, I would. A real home. I would like that." Sabrina smiled at the older woman and Sabrina felt like Eureaka was her mother. Sandor picked up the violin and started to play. Sabrina, Eureaka and Alasha danced. Sabrina had never danced before. She liked it. As Sabrina danced, she heard a voice in the background telling her things would be alright. She looked towards the ocean and saw her parents in a mist and the blew kisses at her and told her these gypsies would love her as her their own. Sabrina's mother threw her a rose as Sabrina caught it. They told her they loved her. As soon as Sandor quit playing, the image of her parents disappeared. Alasha asked Sabrina what was wrong. Sabrina told her, Eureaka and Sandor what had just happened. Sandor told Sabrina the violin belonged to his Great Grandfather. He had been killed by a village man who hated gypsies. The violin had bought good luck after this and it was believed that Great Grandpa's spirit lived on through the violin. He had been King of the Gypsies and he still looked after everyone even through death. Sabrina and Alasha became like sisters as the years passed. Sabrina and Spook had a good life with the gypsies and she would see the spirits of her parents from time to time when Sandor played the violin. Sabrina was never lonely and unhappy again. ** #775774 Not An Image ** ![]() ![]()
