Outline for as yet untitled novel.
Jane Doe (placeholder name) is on the way to visit a friend out in the country when she is abducted by aliens. The drug the aliens give her to make her unaware of what is happening to her doesn't work and she's aware of all that goes on. After all the medical tests and mental tests are over, she is left in a small room with a group of other people. A thin book laying in a niche in the corner where she sits attracts her attention and she takes it and hides it under her shirt. After being returned to her car, she goes on to visit her friend but doesn't tell about being abducted. Coming home the next day, she finds a lot of excitement around the building she lives in and sees that her apartment has been destroyed. With only her old car and the clothes on her back and a bank card in her wallet, she goes on a journey across country to bring the alien book to the UN. Running out of gas she is helped by a man named Jim. Somehow she finds herself trusting this man and sharing the story of her abduction and the book with him. Somewhat too quickly he agrees to help her go to the UN. Then follows a cross country race with the aliens attacking at various times and trying other methods to get the book, which shows engineering schematics for the alien ship, back in their hands. Jim who is actually working for the aliens persuades her to give the book back to the aliens, at the moment she is about to enter the UN building in New York.
