The Wake

It’s not been long, some three days past
I shed this shell they view
And as they stand with stilted grace
Each neatly in a queue

Their thoughts are mine, and now I know
What each does truly feel
But will not share with others there
As bells so softly peal

Still, good to see those I’d not seen
Since, oh so long ago
And good to know they share regret
Some on that stage below

That our commitments keep us from
Sharing much we save
Until this day, ironically
When sharing meets the grave
