So far away from a life once lived,
The things so missed, the loved ones dear, Your thoughts so often turn to home; It's always hard to not be near. Your uniform hangs crisp and smart, A homecoming seems far away. Each days duty you do with commitment, A ship and pier wait for another day. Remember though you're kept in hearts, And brought close in thoughtful prayers; Not just of your families, friends and loves, But in those too of total strangers. When the sun sets on your desert sand, It will roll around and then, Find its way to shine upon the home, You will see soon once again. The moon that rises above your tent Will do the same back here, It lights the path to bring you back Sending peace to ease your fears. Each star belongs to someone near, Who knows your sacrifice, And wishes upon their shining light To keep you safe each night. So do what seems must now be done, And don’t doubt when you look above? The sun moon and stars are the way sent by God, To let all that care, while you're gone, share their love.
