Numbing Grace
Reflecting on a battle...

Watching upon a lonely hill
Above a field of silent red,
The ruin that lays before me
Calls the lights of those now dead.
Their minds are lost in duty
And their souls embrace a love.
For secretly they whisper
To the powers high above.

The glitter on my stained blade
Reminds me of why I am here.
Lost amidst the rain and cold,
Forgotten among my fears.
No happiness for the wanderer,
Nor peace for the mournful eyes.
Some day the land will find a calm
And then some hope may rise.

Though I tried,
I have fallen
In and out of grace.
I'm so empty,
I wish no one in my place.
I'm so worn,
Shattered beyond a trace.
This is all I know...

I turn my back on the suffering,
To the burning and the slaughter,
And walk away from the pain
Along the silent river's water.
I turned my back on my kin,
On all that I once knew.
This wrong that was brought to me
Had replaced what I called true.

Tears stream down my mourning eyes,
Frozen crystal by the snow.
My path is broken through the trees,
And hate is all I know.
I scream up to the lonely star
In hopes it will hear my plea.
"I'm sorry to all that has been lost.
My soul, please forgive me."

Though I tried,
I have fallen,
In and out of grace.
I'm so empty,
I wish no one in my place.
I'm so worn,
Shattered beyond a trace.
This is all I know...

Though we tried,
All has fallen,
In and out of grace.
It's so empty,
I wish no one in this place.
Time's so worn,
Shattered beyond a trace.
Is this all we'll know?...
