Inside Out

         Inside Out

Eyes are the window to the soul
Revealing what dwells inside
But windows also have shades
Designed to cover up and hide.

For I am not what I seem
Lingering behind shaded eyes
To hide what I really am
And mask my blustery lies.

Weary of masquerading and
Trafficking among the sublime
I fall into the mire of the world
Among the dirt and the grime

I am miserable in the depths
Of the sultry heat of the furnace
Where the realities of life
Constrain me to be earnest
