NOTHING LIKE AN APPLE PIE!

I wasn't born in the lap of luxury
But we had our share of things
That made our young lives special;
Quite fit for queens or kings.

The aroma from the kitchen drifted
Throughout the house and I
Could hardly wait for suppertime
And that delicious apple pie!

Dad came in from the fields all smiley
And would always kiss the cook;
I know that she was pleased as punch,
'Cause she gave him "that look"!

We were just another farm family
Who never wondered where or why
We chose this kind of living,
Finding it harder to get by.

Of all the things from childhood
I recall as the years go by,
It's the memories of the laughter
When we saw that apple pie!

There is nothing like an apple pie
To set the world right when things go wrong;
Nothing as sad or missed as much
When the very last piece is gone.
