Feeling Your Religion
My personal opinion on being judged for what I believe.

I received the following review on my poem "An Atheist Confers With God, I've left out the person's user name for the obvious reasons. They know who they are.

"This is oxymoronic-A "confirmed" atheist speaking to God !You poor poor thing. I'm so sorry you've been dealt such a lousy hand in life, but since theres no God, you've gotta blame someone else-maybe yourself? Or, maybe blind chance {no, theres no satisfaction in that} What about "society"-there you go-that satisfies a lot of people. Or lady luck {or the lack of her, that is} Hope I've helped."

Now, I'm not one to let bad reviews of anything I write bother me, it is only a person's opinion, perception or professional review of the item. This one wasn't a review of what I wrote, it was a direct attack on me and my beliefs.

After I responded to this heated review of me, I promptly put an Author's Note on the poem using my response to the Reviewer (and I use that term lightly in this case) as a template. It did nothing to soothe the affront I had been faced with. In fact, it has troubled me since I received the review.

I find it so hard to believe that this was the act of a Christian. I may be an atheist, but I would never judge a person for their beliefs or anything that they have built their life on. I still have my morals, standards and ethics that I base my own life on. I don't cast aspersions, point a finger at, or throw stones at anyone or any particular thing for how my life has gone. Granted, how my life has gone has had some influence on why I chose to be an atheist. It is not the only thing though, I have a whole world around me to influence me. If you can't see it, take the blinders off or pull out of your tunnel-vision and have a good look around. You might be surprised about how much you have missed.

I'm going to end this here although I could go on and on. Besides, this isn't what Writing.Com is all about. This site is about creativity and art form, the expression of thought and the chance to use our freedom of speech with out fear of incrimination or judgement.
