How Not to Bake a Cake
"Flour, sugar, butter, eggs, And remember you two Don’t stop to play. The ingredients I need A cake to bake For this most important day." So she handed the list To the dog and cat And off they trotted With the grocery bag. A little while later They came trotting back With all the things In the grocery sack Flour, sugar And catnip tea But there are no eggs I can clearly see. A chewy bone, This will not do. I can’t bake my cake Because of you. "We're sorry, Mommy, We do love you." "Well, that's okay, I love you too." She patted their heads And fluffed their fur, And the two snuggled down Close to her. "What could be better than this?" I say. "This has been My best birthday."
