It Was No Accident
My courage I’ve gathered haphazardly My steps falter as I approach the bier Her dainty form lies on satiny sheets And I curse the one who sent her here. A midnight drive on rain soaked streets With a friend who’d drank too much And now I’ll hear her sing no more Nor will I know her tender touch A life is gone by a useless act A shining star snuffed out in the night Why me I ask and then I know I’m not alone for many share my plight
