Flair For Writing Issue Seventeen
March Editor: Megan Rose Princess Megan Rose 10 Years Assistant Editor: Angel Angel ![]() Hi Everyone! Happy St. Patrick's Day! A little early but Angel and I decided to work on the newsletter early. How are you surviving the winter? In California, Angel gets warm temperatures and walks along the Beach and here in Indiana I get cold, snow, drifting and blowing snow! Lately, the weather is better. Finally! A little cold and some rain. Life can be good. How many of you do scrapbooking? This month we are going to talk about writing stories from pictures. I researched a lot of good info on this. Angel gives her in put as well. Where do we start? We want to preserve our photo memories. Photos speak to us. We have good memories of the time we spent visiting certain states and countries aboard. Maybe you want to remember family reunions, visits with friends and families. You take pictures of Graduations, Weddings, Bridal and Baby Showers, your pets and we could go on and on about the events you take pictures of. When you take the pictures, the subject of the photo is so important that you want to capture the moment forever. You are preserving the stories of your life as you include families and friends. You create a scrapbook that speaks for you. You give yourself a voice. Everytime someone opens your scrapbook, they see the people in your life and the world around you. You want these photos to speak to people. Take time to create a scrapbook with your pictures. You are a writer and even if you're not, YOU WANT TO TELL YOUR STORY. You have a beautiful, complex story to tell. Rather it is about love, friendships, this is your story to tell. Choose pages for your scrapbook. There are so many colors and themes. There are special military pages, Disneyland ones{Cinderella, Winnie the Pooh, Mickey and friends}, teddy bears{hopefully dolls, I haven't found them, yet!},old fashioned pages that look like the 1920's and on up, flowered ones and etc. There are pages in different colors as well. You put the pictures on the pages. Tell the stories that are important to you. Look at each photo. Who is in the picture? Where was the photo taken? What's happening in the photo? Why is it important? Why is one or more of the people in the photo special? My sister is important. We took a lot of pictures when my husband and I visited her in Florida. My Dad didn't find out about her until seven years ago and I was raised as an only child. We missed out on a lot. I cherish every picture of her and I love her dearly. So, I made a scrapbook of us. We were at Disneyland together. I wanted to cherish every moment. The photos of us by the ocean and a lighthouse. She is special to me. When telling stories from photos, write unique stories about them. Like the lighthouse, historians would love some info on the lighthouse. Children would love stories about the Disney characters to go along with the photos. Like here's Tigger and Eeyore and they want to say: "Hi Billy! We love you!" Maybe you like to rhyme. Rhyme poems about the photos. Use a word or words you don't hear every day to tell a story. This will get someone's attention. As writers, you know that.Try to write a single sentence that says it all. THIS BEACH IS WHERE DEAN AND I FELL IN LOVE. Don't forget to include nicknames when referring to friends and familiy members. This will give your photos flair. Use inspirational quotes. You can even use song lyrics. Like the Beach picture. ON THE BEACH WHERE WE USED TO RUN. This is a line from a Glen Campbell song. You can come up with your own song lyric ideas. Keep a dictionary on hand. Don't suffer from writer's block. Every picture tells a story so just run with that idea. Writing stories from pictures is art as well as a form of journaling. The primary purpose of putting words on your page is to tell your story to someone else. As writers, you have words at your finger tips. So, don't be afraid to use word play. Storytelling. Don't you love to write. I' m sure you are passionate about your writing. With scrapbook photos, you can show as well as tell. Think of a scrapbook like a journal. This is a book you wrote. Be proud. This scraqpbook and future ones you make and write are your masterpieces. Next month, we will be back to talk about scrapbook styles and writing. Angel and I hope you have enjoyed this issue. Please if you have any ideas or an item to submit, please E-mail me or Angel. We want to hear from you. Until next month, Happy Spring!
