INTRODUCTION

Contests are fun and a wonderful way to expand your knowledge of writing! I regularly host contests that enable me to help and support authors’ work at Writing.Com.

There are many different styles of writing that pass through here and I see great talent and soul written every day. When I judge entries, I look for a number of things - usually it is the total package or something unique that sticks out. In both poetry and short stories, I judged an item by originality and a theme/plot that will carry me through to the end.

I used to regularly host "Best Of Three Contest"  once a month, but with other responsibility, I don't have alot of extra leisure time. So, occasionally I will host this contest in hope to see many of you enter. "Best Of Three Contest"  usually runs five days (Mon.-Fri.) - rotating month to month, poetry and short stories. Over the weekend I pick entries, sponsor a poll for five days and have the public vote for their favorite item. Popular vote wins. But, the amount of time for submission and poll time will vary.

If you don’t want to submit an entry, maybe you would like to review and rate some of the submissions. The authors will appreciate your time, and in return, most people will visit your port too.
