It wasn't in my parent's approval.
Wasn't waiting with new and better friends.
It didn't hover in fancy things,
or in the place I had never been.

It wasn't in another's sultry eyes.
Could not be found within someone's touch.
Wasn't hiding in their silken words,
or found in things that cost so much.

It wasn't in the books I read,
or the lectures I attended.
The therapist didn't hold the key,
nor was it in green beyond my fences.

I finally found it inside of me,
In a quiet peaceful place.
That part of God that in me lies,
waiting patiently for my wakeful grace.
