Pretending
Quizmo LaGrande I’m going to write a poem today— Done not in quite a while; I’m going to swirl my pen around And do it Quizmo style; And write of romance, fond and fair, Of prophecies and kings, Of never wearing underwear Or other garment things. Of sunshine in the moonlight, Seems absurd but, yes, it’s true, Through a multitude of dewdrops A classic glowing viewed. An enlightenment, so rich and true, No rose pretending caught As flower periwinkle, Marigold, or violet—naught, To be no other than itself, Neither dandelion nor briar Demanding merely life itself, Its fragrance must inspire. I’m going to write a poem today Of ginseng, toast, and tea. Of worms and rings and wanderings, Of life, and loves, and me.
