AN ODE TO A POET


Poet, spokesman of the heart,
Feelings and emotions,
You bring tears and happy smiles
Through your magic potions.

Poet, your words deep, sublime,
Touch deep inside the heart,
Making it to laugh or cry
As suits your gentle art.

Poet, your writing inflicts
Wounds deeper than a sword.
But your words can soothe like balm.
Healing touch they afford.

Poet, your kind, tender heart,
Cries due to others’ pain.
You are ill understood but,
Never do you complain.

You make to humanity
A real difference.
I touch your feet, poet, and
I bow in reverence.
