Forgiveness

I want to forgive you if only for myself.
I don’t care if it eases your guilty
conscious.

I want the peace, that comes from
letting go of the hurt.

I want to move past you, like a runner
in a marathon, headed straight for the finish line.

I want the thought of you, the memory
of your touch and the essence of your
presence, to be wiped away from my mind.

And you…

You just want to be friends.
