Wisdom of the Aged

I use to think that camping;
All that dirt and sometimes mud,
Was exciting and so thrilling,
Now I crave a nice hot tub.

Drive 5 hours to see a concert?
Was no big deal at all to do.
Now I'd rather watch the DVD,
On the couch without my shoes.

Use to find a crowd exciting,
All that energy swirling around.
Now I just get claustrophobic,
Peace and quiet's my favorite sound.

I use to tease my aging parents,
"Quit acting old, it's in your mind!"
Now I know it's not acting older,
It's being "smarter" all the time.

When we're young and inexperienced,
We don't know a better way.
Appreciation for all things comfy,
Comes with time and mellow age.

I choose to think that I'm just wiser,
More in tune with "finer" things,
When you're young you're kind of crazy,
Getting older makes you a sage.

People turn to you for wisdom,
They want to know the secret of,
That contented look upon your face;
Is it from a life all filled with love?

No, that helps, you kindly tell them,
But the secret real and true,
To being content and well and happy,
I will now reveal to you...

Seek out easy access parking,
Avoid the crowds and lumpy beds,
Stay warm and dry and cozy,
Eat great food, drink vintage reds.

Reminisce and do it fondly,
On days past of "devil may care,"
But if you want long life remember...
It's peace and comfort will get you there.
