Watch the It!
When we read to young children, they are often forming images in their minds from the words that flow out of our mouths. Overuse of pronouns, such as it, can be confusing to a child if the words are not clearly portrayed. This week we are going to do a little exercise based on the pronoun it. Part I Reword the following sentences without using the pronoun it. Example: Before: It was snowing. After: White flakes fell from the sky. Now it’s your turn! 1. It was raining. 2. It was windy. 3. It was sad. 4. It was morning. 5. It was time to eat. Part II Write a very short children’s story using all five replacement sentences you have created from Part I. And be sure to watch the its throughout your story! Have fun! Love, Cubby “)
