We all have heard the song Galveston by Glen Campbell. I have always loved that song ever since it first came out when I was in Junior High. This shows you how old I am. Have you ever listened to the words? This is my take on what the song means. I just love Glen Campbell and nothing will ever change that. Here goes.
In the song, Galveston, the man is leaving to go to fight a war. Probably in Viet Nam. This is about 1970. The part where he sings I clean my gun and dream of Galveston, he is remembering her and when they used to run on the Beach. He remembers her dark eyes and that she is twenty-one years old. He knows she thinks about him and misses him. She prays he will be safe. She may work in a gift store by the ocean. Maybe she's in college. When she's not working or going to school, she goes to the Beach and reads a romance or writes him a letter and dreams of the day he'll return home to her. She's in love. A few months has passed and two men in uniform deliver a letter informing her that the one she loves is missing in action or worse. I would like to think that he makes it back home and they run along the beaches of Galveston, Texas and they are laughing and happy. They get married and life is good for them. I hope those of you who read this and love this song feel the same way I do. Galveston is one of Glen Campbell's best songs of all times. ![]() ![]() ![]()
