For a Soldier, For a Friend
To the men and women in service.

This is for a Soldier
that I knew well.
A tribute of sorts.
For the story I now tell.

He's fought battles
for country and kin.
He's done his best to serve
the country he lives in.

His road has been rough.
He's been trained to win.
I asked him why once,
He replied" For my family and friends."

He believes in our nation.
It's values he'll stand by
He'd fight to his last breath
Though we pray he won't die.

And when the fights over
Homeward will he be bound.
He did us all a great service
So with his family, may he be found.

This is for a Friend
who taught me a great deal.
He saw a lot of horror
to fight for these ideals:

That we are born equal
and our lands should remain free.
This is what he fought for
And he's done it for you and for me.

And for all that he has done
This message do I send
The words "thank you" just don't seem enough,
For a Soldier, For a friend.
