Crush
I had a crush on a guy but I was in a relationship already, which sucked at the time.

You had a crush on me
just what I need
I knew you would be my downfall
from the moment I saw you roaming the halls
Far from all the things I once believed
You made me weak in my time of need
I wanted your attention
but that I could not mention
I needed your adoration
I fed on all temptation
I longed for an unfamiliar touch
that I would soon say was too much
I pushed what was offered away
How could I know it would haunt me everyday
What if I had said this
would I have discovered what I would forever miss
What if I had done it like that
would I have realized where, together, we could have been
To say I'd do things differently
is too much of a burden on me
They say it all happens for a reason;
why people come and go faster than the average season
We did what we had to do
to make the relationships we held close seem new
We did what needed to be done
taking every ounce of energy to keep our cool without jumping the gun
One day this will all make sense
hopefully, not at the others expense
So a friend, I think I can be
I can cloud my emotions until they fade, eventually
The feelings between us can be left unspoken
but what has come of it can never be broken
It doesn't need to be said
In spite of it all, we've come out ahead
