The World's Greatest Evil

I am just the same as you; can't you see it in my eyes?
Hate's reflected through your own; I'm someone you despise.
I can't see what the difference is, though it's clear to you—
You're blinded by a prejudice that I can see right through.

You think I am a murderer because my skin is black;
But I won't hang you from a tree, nor stab you in the back.
You think I am untrustworthy, spewing vicious lies—
That I am here to hurt you as a demon in disguise.

You think I am a terrorist because I veil my face;
Though I escaped oppression for a freedom filling place.
I will not hurt your family, nor take hostage your best friend;
I am as true as you are—I have nothing to pretend.

You think I am savage because of feathers in my hair
That I am dirty—worthless—since for the earth, I care.
The life that I hold special, you've turned it against me—
Stripped me of my confidence and the person I can be.

You think that I am stupid from the accent in my voice—
Branded me with insults and names beyond my choice.
I haven't bothered you about what makes you so unique;
Why must you find such faults in me and insult how I speak?

Because I am a woman, you believe that I am weak—
That I am less intelligent, and don't match your physique.
You think that you can toy around and use me just for sex—
But I am not your plaything, nor one of your objects.

Maybe one day you will see us through a clearer mind—
That though we may look different, we're not of another kind.
You might see through your ignorance and learn a thing or two—
We may be different people, but we're just the same as you.
