***MEMORIAL DAY 2004***

SHADOW OF THE STONE

I stand again in the shadow of the stone,
Stark grey granite against a clear blue sky;
Carved names a reminder of each young soul
Lost in freedom's quest, here now lie.

Silently I stand with those who mourn,
Watching as a wreath is placed with care
By loving hearts who were left behind;
The air is filled with silent prayer.

From a distant hill, the sound of Taps
Echoes over the countryside once more,
And the flags wave a tribute to the fallen;
Now in God's care, their spirits soar.

We shall not forget their sacrifice
And as we make our way back home,
We take one last look and smile to see
Angels standing in the shadow of the stone.
