The Faces on Milk Cartons
Once she lived next door, now she's a face on a milk carton.

They weren’t just faces
Painted on milk cartons.
They were alive;
They were free.
They loved life.
They were somebody’s children.

How could someone be so heartless?
It is by God’s hands they were born,
And only His hands should take them.

I saw her skipping down the street
Barefoot and pigtailed,
Laughing with the sun.
Her sapphire eyes sparkled
With innocence and love.
With her laughter echoing
In my thoughts,
I am reminded,
She was alive.
She was free.
She loved life.
She was someone’s child.
She is a memory,
A memory I hold dear.

How could someone be so heartless?
It is by God’s hands they were born,
And only His hands should take them.

They weren’t just faces
painted on milk cartons.
They were alive;
They were free.
They loved life.
They were somebody’s children.
