FROG PRINCE
The young princess took her ball, Golden ball, Golden ball, Played all day in the woods. The ball fell in a deep well, The deep well, The deep well. The princess cried and cried. Then there came an ugly frog, Slimy frog, Slimy frog, Who told her not to cry. He said “I will get the ball, Your own ball, Your own ball, But, you must promise this: You will eat and drink with me, Play with me, Play with me, And let me feel your bed.” She said “yes”, the frog brought out, Soon brought out, Soon brought out, The ball from the deep well. Then the princess took the ball And went home And went home While the frog called her back. But at night the frog came back, He knocked hard, He knocked hard, At the door of her room. Now, in fact, the proud princess Hated him Hated him And did not let him in. At this the king scolded her And told her And told her She must keep her promise. Then the princess called the frog, Fed the frog, Fed the frog, And put him in her bed. In the morning she got up And looked up And looked up But did not find the frog. In his place she found a prince, Charming prince, Charming prince, Who looked and smiled at her. He told her a wicked witch, Crooked witch, Crooked witch, Had made a frog of him. The King, the Princess, the Prince, The Frog Prince, The Frog Prince, Were happy thereafter. * Written as per the original Frog Prince fairy tale, available at http://childhoodreading.com/Edmund_Dulac_and_Gus/Magic_Jewel.html. * Written in 7,3,3,6 meter * My other poems for children are at: CHILDREN'S CORNER, "CHILDREN'S CORNER" SCIENCE, MEDICAL, LAW, HUMOR, CHILDREN, "SCIENCE, MEDICAL, LAW, HUMOR, CHILDREN" M C Gupta 22 May 2004
