In the land of long ago
a poem of a dragon and a maiden's love

In the land of long ago
At a time we don’t know
There lived a dragon sad
With no friends to be had
He was terribly lonely
And wished for love only

In a castle great and grand
Lived the princess of the land
A fair maiden to be true
Still, very blue.
For the princess was expected to wed
But,in her heart she felt only dread
Her father’s man of choice
Was an Ogre who had a shrill voice

So desperate was she
That away the maiden did flee
To the land of long ago
At a time we still don’t know
There she met the great dragon sad
And offered herself a feast to be had
As she could not wed
The man she did dread

The dragon’s serpentine eyes
Did see a great prize.
Not a feast
Fit for a beast
But a friend
He would defend

The great dragon sad
Began to be glad
The maiden fair
His love would share

Away they did fly
In the night sky
To the world roam
Looking for a new home
Where a dragon and maiden could be
As happy
as you and me
