An Answer To Unanswered Prayer

Never give up on prayer, no matter how long it takes to be answered. Below is account how it took over 20 years for a prayer to be answered.

It's been twenty odd years since the day you walked out the door, walked out the door saying you were going for a walk, only not to return. Twenty odd years since we saw your handsome face and heard your voice. We never gave up hope of finding you, of having you reunite with the family.

From the day you left without a trace, we have knelt daily asking God to take you in His special care. We have prayed quietly, silently, with tears and lifted voices, begging God to bring you back home, asking just for a word from you. God chose not to answer.

We not only prayed daily and quite often many times a day, but we also taught your sisters and brothers to do likewise. We taught them that we needed to always keep you alive in our minds, to love you, and we must daily ask God for your protection and return. We also told them to be thankful that we have a picture of you hanging on the wall. A picture that has kept your memory alive in their young minds. After twenty odd years one might think we would give up on you, but NEVER.

Sometimes we would wonder why God allowed you to leave, and why He didn't answer our prayers, prayers prayed over a twenty years peroid.

Last week the telephone rang in the middle of the night. Our little grandson was terribly ill with a raging fever. We were sure it was word that his fever had broken or our daughter was calling for urgent prayers on his behalf. What a surprise to hear it was word about you. We were so excited to hear that you called your sister, we knelt immediately and thanked God for answering our prayers.

We will be seeing you soon Son. With your call you have given us the greatest gift that two parents could receive. The past is behind us, the future lies ahead. Your siblings are so filled with happiness and excitement. We are filled with love and deep thankfulness. We all have so much news to catch up on. So many years of love to give.

What happened, we still don't know, but whatever it was it doesn't matter. What's important is having you reunite with your family who has never given up on you, and who has always loved you. We are counting the minutes until we see you and can take you in our arms and give you a huge hug.

One comment you made to your sister was how surprised you are, to hear that you will be so well received back in the fold. How could this not be? For you ARE the answer to our unanswered prayers.

This update is a copy of an email sent to our son.
