INDEPENDENCE DAY

Thank A Soldier!
** #844744 Not An Image **

It's a time for family and friends
to celebrate with fireworks and food;
Too easily taken for granted by those
of us who are just "not in the mood"

To think about how we gained freedom
and about how we keep it today,
Take time, friend, to thank a soldier
who helped to keep tyranny at bay.

Its meaning is quite often hidden
in the spirit of having some fun,
Watching the fireworks brighten the sky
and when the day's over, it's done!

Yet the soldiers who carry the flag
and hold it real high, with respect,
know that the cost of our freedom
is something we should never neglect.

It's a time to remember the fallen,
and to step up, determined to try
to carry on with what they started;
Look a soldier straight in the eye!

While hot dogs and burgers are eaten
and drinks are the rule of the day;
Do you wonder what they are doing,
gone so many long miles away?

They didn't ask for a battle,
and they know some of them will die;
Yet freedom is why they are fighting,
love of country and mom's apple pie.

Now to some that may sound corny,
and a flag-waving patriot I may be,
but I'll not take freedom lightly;
Independence Day means so much to me.
