2004 SLAM prompt. Use a Bible Quotation to write your poem. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Light I floated through strange cities. But the sun would always dip, And fade away before I looked. So I fled toward the West Out where the palm trees Massaged a swollen sky. I noticed him standing there At the corner of sunshine On Hollywood and Vine. So I opened wide my heart, And I fed him summer pearls. He ate them and fizzled out. All the streets were empty Though they sparkled bright With a hundred colored banners, But I only searched for sunbeams, And light had once more fled. Heart-torn, I wept in the dark, Until another glow appeared Far brighter than the first, And the palm trees swayed. But Hollywood and Vine Is no place to search for light, For it rips stars to shreds. Kicking sand, I met a clothman Who sang me golden psalms, Then gave me dreams and riddles. And afterward he brought me To the gate, the gate facing east, And finally I saw -- the shining light of day. Ezekial 43 Afterward he brought me to the gate, the gate facing east. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
