The Para/Poem Challenge usually gives four or six word prompts for writing poetry. During June, I was on vacation, plus other activities that prevented my writing for a couple of weeks. When I returned, Wordsy suggested that I write about my vacation using all the prompts for the days I had missed, ergo "What I did on My Vacation." And as I suggested to the P/P group, if you like this, my name is Winds, and if you don't, then send all complaints to Wordsy, 'cause he suggested it.
What I Did On My Vacation When first this trip was ordained It was not an immaculate conception For we were indeed beguiled By those with a legacy of deception We have bargains you don’t realize More favor than you will ever know Let us treat you with a custom sedan A car laying fallow for a little dough Las Vegas is a city of rare mystique A diamond in the desert, a joyous interlude Where decadence and familiarity abound And you can get stewed, screwed and booed So we boarded our plane with abandon And to the east we flew to go west Our courage was about to divide And our plane seemed to be possessed So we waited for the call in Atlanta Afraid we would forfeit our place on the plane For the slate that told of our flight number Failed to generate the right name Finally we arrived in Vegas The grandeur was more than we imagine A lofty city that was doubly narcissistic Sweltering under a hot mid-day sun Sights galore that were costly Excuses for the temptations of men And though they would say it’s tolerable The tabloids showed off Vegas’ skin And what is there to vindicate this city With all the ecstatic pleasures it shows Baroque would be an understatement Under streets that have a neon glow There have been those who would expunge A reputation of an outlaw brand But few are amenable to the effort To change this stalwart city in the sand The casinos are divine and yet innane Intricate, dense and obtuse With gondolas and barcaroling oarsmen And with ignorance we are seduced In all the sophistication we are inept Adrift on the sea of our stupidity Sprinkled in with the other tourist We gawk at the gaudiness of this city We stand on the strip with absolute facination At the cascade of tourists who came to play And denounce the hedonism on the strip Then we see Uncle Fester along the way Finally the upheaval has settled This glittering trail has come to its end We will no longer parry with temptation For my sails have lost their Winds So we head to the station in Vegas Cause the fun did our money exhaust And though we did not gamble our money Traveling home our luggage was lost ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Words required to be used by "Para/Poem Challenge "Open"" Ordained…Conception…Beguiled…Legacy…Bargains…More…Favor…Treat…Fallow…Joyous…Interlude…Decadence…Familiarity…Abandon…Divide…Courage…Forfeit…Slate…Generate…Grandeur…Doubly…Lofty…Costly…Excuses…Tolerable…Vindicate…Ecstatic…Baroque…Expunge…Amenable…Stalwart…Divine…Innane…Intricate...Dense…Obtuse…Gondolas…Barcaroling…Ignorance…Inept…Adrift…Stupidity…Sprinkled…Absolute…Cascade…Denounce…Fester…Umheaval…Trail…Parry…Station…Cause…Lost
