I, The Ocean
I blame my companions for my mood changes.

I, The Ocean
by Marilyn Mackenzie

My waves rush in
And tease the feet
Of children playing
In the sand, wind and sun.

I may seem tame,
But farther out
My ocean belly
Swells and belches and roars.

Creatures of all sizes
And shapes and hues
Dwell within the depths
Of my clear, cold water belly.

My companions are
The sun, the moon
The stars, wind and clouds.
I blame them for my mood changes.

The wind is calm now
And I’m teasing again
This time the feet
Of lovers on the beach,
The night scarcely lit by the stars.
