A Happy Muse is a Helpful Muse

Lately I've read a lot about muses on Writing.Com. Some of us are cursing the loss of said muse while others are singing its praises. One of the tricks to writing is to keep our muses happy--very happy. There are several ways in which to do just this.

Muses loved to be pampered. It is as simple as that. Once you have learned this, you and your muse will live (and write) in harmony.

Some muses love certain foods. Chocolate seems to be a great soother for the muse. Other muses may crave salty snacks or even caviar! Give in to this on occasion, but remember to take care of the muse's vessel also!

Some muses respond to a hot bath, complete with candles and wine.

Muses love music! Mine responds to different music depending on the piece we are working on. Each muse is unique. While mine may love to listen to 80's hair bands, yours may prefer country or opera.

Take your muse out of the house. Mine adores just being outside, enjoying whatever nature has to offer. Something in the breeze, fragrant flowers and frolicking butterflies refreshes my muse and leaves her wanting to write. While my muse loves the great outdoors, yours may prefer some shopping. It's up to you to know your muse!

Lastly, what I consider the most important item in this list, is laughter and play. Play with your kids or your dog. Watch cartoons. Laugh with friends and family. Be silly. It works, I promise!

Be kind to your muse (and yourself) and you will find yourself worrying less about writer's block and enjoying life so much more!
