Masque
we never look behind the mask

And there in lies the darkness,
behind this mask I wear.
Where hides the shame and sorrow
that it seems I’ve brought to bear.

And there the lonely tears I’ve cried,
for sadness sorry sake.
Are all that’s left of this sorrowed soul
I cannot seem to shake.

And then there dwells the demons,
I simply cannot hide.
And all the fears for all the years
I’ve kept here deep inside.

And so the silent secrets
whispered in the night.
And the thoughts I find, are all in kind
and do not make it right.

So you see, I’ve hidden,
yet not so far away.
Just behind this mask, you see,
is where I want to stay
