What if…

What if we humans discovered there was a God up there, looking down on us from heaven? What if there were to be a mathematical formula and scientific explanation for a God? Could humans live, knowing for sure that they were subordinate to another? Would humans try to rise up against God, try to steal His power? If we were to discover the existence of God, would life remain the same; would we still watch football games on big screen TVs, or would we spend all our time praising God? Would we lose our sense of human curiosity, and abandon science all together? Would wars stop, and would people still remain hungry for absolute power? Would people like Hitler or Napoleon ever come to rise again, if we were to discover that God truly exists? Would humans still express their feelings through the arts, or would all artistic abilities be focused toward God?

And what if it were to be proven that there was no God whatsoever? What if every single thing in the known universe could be explained by a scientific law or theory? Would religious wars erupt, would the Vatican fall, would people begin to accept it? Could we bare to live knowing that there is no God? Would people accept the idea that after this life there is nothing waiting for us, that we just fade into nothingness, never to live again?

Perhaps in this day and age, it is the intricate balance and indecisiveness between believing in God and atheism that makes people have faith. Perhaps it is because we do not know of the existence or the nonexistence of God that makes true believers. If there were no doubt in a God whatsoever, then there would be no true believers. People would just know, they would not need faith, they would not truly believe. So in the end, it is the not knowing that makes our minds, faiths, and intellects thrive. Perhaps to find out the truth would be the end of us all.
