WHEELS

** #885711 Not An Image **

My son was only four years old
when he rode his birthday bike;
I watched as he went down the road
Such a happy little tyke!

His giggles became a belly laugh
as he splashed on through the puddle,
getting wet was a sure bet -
yet he was still a child to cuddle.

It seems like only yesterday
when that little boy was young,
and his wheels would turn back home
where happy songs were sung.

At sixteen he bought new wheels
and drove further down the road,
much too fast for songs to last
and then the wheels were towed.

They pulled him from the water
and he grinned and shook his head;
Another car would take him far
there was another road ahead.

I didn't understand back then
that there's something to be said
for giving him a chance to ride
and the future up ahead.

I won't see the roads he'll travel
but at night I'll say a prayer
that God will be there by his side
and keep him in His care.
