FREEDOM—a ghazal
Lamenting the curbs put on expression of truth and free thought

FREEDOM—a ghazal

By all I am shunned today.
I’m disillusioned today.

For speaking out bare truth,
I have been interned today.

Takers of truth are but few.
This fact I have learned today.

One day truth will yet prevail,
Though I have been spurned today.

By your vitriolic words,
My heart has been burned today.

Backward in the logic book,
A page you have turned today.

I am aghast at your thoughts.
My mind has been churned today.

Khalish, why in freedom’s name,
Freedom is adjourned today?

A ghazal consists of couplets having a well- defined rhyming pattern and, often, refrain. For a detailed note on ghazal, please see "WHAT IS A GHAZAL AND HOW TO WRITE IT?
