Games People Play
a poem about the games adults play with children

did you ever wonder about me
about the pain and grief you caused?
did you think that is how it should be
causing a child to live thru your shame?

i look back and see this fragile child,
no one loved her, no one cared.
she slowly grew and became wild
protection and love held no charm.

the games people played upon her soul
left her beaten, battered, and broken.
the games people played left her unwhole
sheltering names and faces yet to be known.

now all grown, a woman of thirty-seven
dealing with shadows of unknown demons.
struggling thru hell to find her own heaven
leaving behind the games people played.
